As a Utah editorial wedding photographer, I’m always chasing something unexpected. This shoot might be the most unexpected one yet.
The Concept
We took Swan Lake and Monet and let them collide at the Spiral Jetty. It’s that otherworldly, spiraling land art piece jutting into the pink-hued waters of the Great Salt Lake. Not your typical wedding backdrop. That’s exactly why we chose it.
We built the whole shoot around softness meeting wildness. Picture flowing tulle against jagged salt crystal. Then add a dreamy, painterly color palette pulled straight from Monet’s water lilies. On top of that, movement that felt more like a ballet than a photoshoot.
As the sun dropped, our models drifted and turned through the shallow water. Their reflections doubled every gesture, almost like the whole lake was part of the choreography.

Working with @stay__co on styling and art direction brought this vision to life in a way I couldn’t have imagined solo. Every detail mattered here, from the gown by @odylynetheceremony to the florals by @intertwinedfloral. We chose each piece so it would feel like it belonged to the land itself, not placed on top of it, but part of it.
Then there’s the painting element. @lexcmarie worked live alongside the shoot, which added this incredible layered quality: art being made about art being made. The finished panels stood in the middle of the salt flats like they’d grown right out of the landscape. Because of that, it’s the kind of detail that turns a beautiful photo into a full sensory experience.
Meanwhile, hair and makeup by @makeupbysamanthaj kept everything soft and ethereal. That let the landscape and styling take center stage without ever competing with it.
